The Tradition of the Yule Log: The Yule log has long been a powerful symbol of rebirth, rooted in ancient customs. Traditionally, a full tree would burn for twelve days to welcome the Sun and bring blessings into the home. Evergreens, symbolizing life and resilience, were believed to ward off the darkness of winter and invite renewal.
For many, the Winter Solstice begins on Mother’s Night (the shortest day of the year), marking the start of the twelve days of Yule. In 2024, this begins on December 21st, and each day acts as a window into the upcoming year. The Twelve Nights encompass the entire year, with each night representing a month of the new year.

Twelve Nights of Yule Traditions: In ancient times, the nights between the years were believed to offer glimpses into the future. Traditional practices included weather divination—where the weather of each night would predict the upcoming month. Other practices included dream interpretation and fortune-telling rituals.
A beloved ritual involves writing 13 wishes for the upcoming year on small pieces of paper, which are burned daily in a fire bowl. At the end of the Twelve Nights, the 13th wish remains—this one, according to tradition, is your responsibility to fulfill.
As hearths evolved, so did the Yule Log tradition, now celebrated with candle-lit logs indoors. This Yule Log Kit brings this timeless custom into your home, connecting you to the rhythms of the season and the sacredness of the Solstice.
The Twelve Nights were also thought to be a time when spirits roamed more freely, with ancestral and supernatural spirits visiting the living. It was an ideal time for sharing tales of the otherworldly.
